“Living and working in Bordeaux, France often found me on many occasions wandering through the 11th century cathedral, St. Andres. I never tired from just strolling inside this magnificent example of medieval architecture. In addition, I never got bored seeing its magnificent works of art as well as taking in its rich history, especially as a historian. One particular morning, I was slowly walking its interior when I looked up and saw the statue of Joan of Arc, Patron Saint of France. With early morning beams of light coming through the glass windows of the cathedral, the statue of Joan of Arc had this beam of white light coming down upon her as if from heaven itself. It seemed so symbolic, inspirational, and mythological, all rolled up in one thus, compelling me to photograph the moment for prosperity.” George Hruby
