Old Castle in Countryside
As cows graze nearby, this once powerful castle lies today, abandoned and in much need of repair. Castle (Chateau) Leymonie-du-Maupa is the only surviving castle of four in the Mussidan region of France. In 1590, the castle served as a headquarters in the area for the Catholics as they battled the Protestants in nearby Sorzac. Forces under the King of France, Henry IV prevailed and the castle was sacked and the chapel burned. Hruby spent numerous years at this castle as his summer residence including sporadic stays throughout the year. Now in need of much restoration, he tried to capture the essence of the site today through his images.
