Moon & Planet over NotreDame - Bordeaux France

This current 17th century church is built upon an original 13 century Dominican monastery site. Hruby became infatuated with the 18th-19th century, Spanish romantic painter, Francisco Goya whose funeral was held in this church in 1828. Goya died on the same day and month that Hruby had been born. Hruby studied Goya’s entire life and understood what he had seen in war growing up had a great influence on his art. It also affected him in late life as the symptoms of what we now know as PTSD were evident. To take this extraordinary picture, Hruby set up his camera on a tripod just inches above the cobblestone street. Literally laying down full prone on the stones of rue Jean Jacques Bel, he struggled to get the shot lined up in his viewfinder to include both the moon and the planet. With the streets completely empty in the early morning hours, Hruby also got lucky as the church, normally dark at such an hour, still was fully illuminated making this shot quite extraordinary.
