Medieval Moat at Night - Xi'an, China

A medieval moat still exists today around the ancient city walls of Xi’an, China, seen on the right. The city walls were built in the 14th century to protect the city which then already had over a thousand years of rich Chinese history. It is currently on the list to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In “Medieval Moat at Night,” Hruby attempts to capture where the modern city of today meets the ancient world of the past. Separated only by a moat filled with water and timeless reflections of who we are as humans.
