Gladiators' Gate under Full Moon - Roman Coliseum
This haunting photograph was taken in the early morning hours in Bordeaux, France, of its Roman Coliseum’s west gate or the “Gladiator’s Gate.” There were only two entrances into the coliseum which housed approximately 15,000 to 22,000 spectators depending on which archaeologist you speak with. Built in the 2nd-3rd century AD, it became the site of gladiatorial games and public executions. Hruby lived just down the street from this entrance and walked by it every day. His thoughts often wondered of those that had entered through this very gate to never leave back out alive. He pondered how humanity could have, and perhaps still does, lust for such violent entertainment.
