Eastern & Oriental Hotel
Hruby created this antiqued look of the Eastern & Oriental Hotel to honor its prestigious past in Georgetown, on Penang Island in Malaysia. The hotel was created in 1889 by the Sarkies Brothers; three brothers from Armenia known for building a chain of luxury hotels throughout Southeast Asia. The old hotel has seen the likes of Rudyard Kipling, Charlie Chaplin, Karl May, Douglas Fairbanks, Sun Yat-sen (the Founding Father of the Republic of China), Orson Welles, Rita Hayworth, and Mary Pickford, Britain’s Prince Charles and Camilla, and many others including famous writers and poets of the day. So, it is no wonder that Hruby, and international poet, author, and historian fell in love with the hotel. It is not uncommon to on occasion find him lounging or dining inside iconic landmark
