Castelnaud Castle

Castelnaud Castle was originally built in the 13th century and expanded across the centuries. It was attacked many times over the centuries, often changing hands between the English and the French. By the French Revolution, it had been abandoned and fell into ruin. It was not until the 1960’s that complete restoration of the castle began, presenting today’s grand presentation and popular tourist destination. Having visited it many times, Hruby, both historian and poet, was always moved by the 11 men that were hung there one day after one of the many battles resulted in the castle being retaken.
