Antinous - Lover of Roman Emperor Hadrian

Photographed at the Louvre in Paris, this 3-foot, 1-inch high, marble bust of Antinous, created sometime between 130 AD – 138 AD, was discovered near the ruins of the Roman city of Tusculum, in Italy. It was eventually sold to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1807 before finding its way to the Louvre. This bust, made when Antinous was alive or just after his death in 130 AD, is believed to be a very accurate depiction of what he looked like in life. A lover of ancient art, Hruby was captivated with its extreme beauty and the skilled craftsmanship of the sculptor.
